The current economic conditions have made the need for supplemental food greater than ever. Though there never seems to be enough. There are some great agencies and programs out there. There are state-supported food stamps and WIC (Women Infants Children), to provide the majority of needed food for babies and children under five. The homeless (and anyone else) can get meals twice a day, seven days a week from the Lowell Transitional Living Center and other days from various soup kitchens and programs.

Merrimack Valley Food Bank - provides food to shelters and other programs. They are the central warehouse where shelters go to obtain MEFAB, government surplus and other food in large quantities.
The Meriimack Valley Food Bank is one of four food banks in Massachusetts and serves pantries, shelters and group homes in Lowell, Greater Lowell.
Meals
Street homeless can get meals from several locations but the primary provider 7 days a week is the Lowell Transitional Living Center. They provide shelter, support and hot meals two times a day, seven days a week, to single adults in need, free of charge. Their food bill is more than $100,000/year.
